PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

These programs, intended for individuals involved with the elderly, offer formal studies in aging. Courses in these programs are offered through Distance Education.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Gerontology (GER): Completion of a diploma or degree in Health Sciences or Human Services (e.g. RN, RPN with Diploma, Recreation, Social Worker, etc.)

Working with the Aged (WWA): Completion of an approved certificate program in Health Sciences or Human Services (i.e. RPN Certificate, PSW, OTA/PTA Certificate)

NOTES
You are permitted to take individual courses within the Gerontology programs, however, to qualify for the Certificate, you must successfully complete all of the required courses.

FIELD EXPERIENCES
On completion of HSCIGER10, HSCIGER20 and HSCIGER30, you are eligible for either of the field experiences.  You must have approval from the Program Manager to register for either field experience and you must complete field experiences within one semester.

Medical clearance is required prior to field experiences WORKGER71 and WORKGER81; a flu shot is also mandatory between October and April.

CREDIT FOR PRIOR LEARNING
You may qualify for credit for skills and knowledge you may have acquired in other courses or in your work experience. If interested in pursuing credit for prior learning, please contact the Prior Learning Assessment office.
