Bridging for Internationally Educated Nurses (BIEN)

Opening Doors For Internationally Educated Nurses

If you are a dedicated, skilled nurse registered outside of Canada, Mohawk College is your bridge to Ontario nursing registration.

The Bridging for Internationally Educated Nurses (BIEN) program will provide you with the education and experience necessary to move towards registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).

NOW AVAILABLE IN KITCHENER/WATERLOO AND NIAGARA REGIONS.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Mohawk College acknowledges your skills and education as a nurse. The program is designed to integrate your skills with Ontario standards as required by the College of Nurses of Ontario.

This certificate program is available on a part-time basis.

    GETTING STARTED

    Contact the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) at www.cno.org and request the "Registering as a Nurse in Ontario" document and an application form. The CNO will assess your application and, if acceptable, will send you a Letter of Direction.

    WHAT YOU NEED

    1. Letter of Direction from the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)

      AND
    2. Have practiced as a nurse within the last 10 years

      AND

    3. All applicants for whom English is a second language must provide results of Canadian Language Benchmarks.  Acceptable levels are 7, or 6 with CARE for Nurses membership.   Following admission, all students must attend a Canadian English Language Benchmark Assessment for Nurses (I-CELBAN)

      AND
    4. Computer literacy** is required for program success. You must be able to use a computer to produce a basic Word document, use e-mail and the Internet

      AND
    5. Proof of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency OR authorized under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada).

    Forward a cover letter along with:

    1. Letter of Direction from CNO
    2. Resume outlining your nursing practice
    3. Results of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) - TOEFL is not accepted

    FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

    NEW! Ontario Bridging Participants Assistance Program (available from September 09 to March 31, 2011). Accepted BIEN students may be eligible to receive up to $5000 in bursary funding towards tuition, books or equipment. OBPAP application forms are available from the Registration Office, IHAS Campus.
