Your ONE THING to Improve Fennell Campus

Tell us the ONE THING that would make Fennell Campus better - click here

More group study spaces.
Monika, Current Architechtural Technology Student

More seating for social interactions.
Rob
, Current Television Broadcasting Student

One thing that would make Fennell campus better is definitely more independent and group work areas. During peak study times it is often very hard to find anywhere to relax and study. Anonymous

Have police foundations at fennel available.
Steve, Current Police Foundations Student

Reading through others requests, it's quite apparent everyone wants it: NEW FITNESS FACILITY. I also think there should be more on campus degree opportunities.Take a page out of Georgian Colleges book, we are way too far behind!Reading through others requests, it's quite apparent everyone wants it: NEW FITNESS FACILITY. More study space for students and more eatery options i.e. Booster Juice and/or Pita Pit. Mohawk would make a killing!

Better Fitness Facility with larger change rooms. And...not to be greedy...but a 2nd thing:DAY CARE!
Kim, Faculty

A bus pass.
Melissa, Current Student

A maintained path from the Columbia Drive entrance with smooth access to the road/parking lot so I can ride my bike without going on the grass and getting on/off for curbs. Thanks! Marg, Faculty

Among the quiet areas in the new structure there must be a quiet area where computers are available. Doing work or editing documents on computer is always difficult, a challenge to concentration, when the Open Access Lab or the Fennell Library or the "e-library" have many people in them. There has rarely been any appetite among staff or managers to even suggest that voices, headphone leakage, or other noise be kept at considerate levels. So a quiet computer area is a must. As well, there is little sound absorption in current facilities--they're all at fault including [especially?] the somewhat new e-library. Make water fountains available near where people actually are!
Eddie, Faculty

more computer access for students who can not afford a computer to do homework. Anonymous

Remove the portables and F-Wing and replace it with a facility that can sustain growth in the Communications programs and the Graphic programs that are transferring to Fennell; also showcase the brilliant students from within those programs with a 'room with a view' concept. Demonstrate to the community that Mohawk has talent!
Tracey, Staff

daycare for students and staff.
Maria, Current Student

A daycare facility for staff and students would make life so much easier for every parent. Heather, Current Student

Light Rail Transit from Parking Lot 10 to J building

More places that have general seating in each of the wings so students can study.  Similar to what they have in main floor i-wing.
Josh, Current General Arts and Science Student

Recreational swimming facility
Kathryn, Current Social Service Worker Student

For any new group gathering space-take note of the nice group seating that Alumni Services provided in the Main Entrance lobby.  The new space needs soft furnishing like those seats plus some armchairs like in I-wing's library to help absorb sound.  Too many plastic and metal chairs add to the noise in the concrete open spaces.  Acoustics and some quiet zones with furnishing to help with noise abatement is a must. Re: childcare-it was removed from Fennell Campus' F-wing not so many years ago.  Maybe a referendum for students at all campuses is needed to determine the demand for this service by students and faculty. Re:  F-wing-improved lighting (maybe a skylight above Continuing Ed intersection?) and paint in classrooms and hallways.  Too many colours are in use in that wing.

Multi-level parking in P10, new fitness facility, hydration station, and PLEASE, more quiet rooms for quiet study with soft seats!
Jennifer, Current Business Accounting Student

For the Campus, I think more seating is necessary.  You've provided students with a common hour but when that time comes around, it's impossible to find a place to sit and do homework.  Or even to sit and pass the time with friends.  I would like to see more areas for students to sit and pass the time.
Mallory, Current Office Admin. Student

More books and less computers!
Ash, Current Office Administration, Legal Student

All students must understand the three pillared approach to sustainability, not only the theoretical understanding, they need to understand how to apply social, environmental and economical sustainability in their everyday living.

Get the community in your doors! Open the gym for membership or partner with the city library - give me a reason to go there and then I will likely discover several more reasons to come back.

Make the graphic designs programs available at the Fennell campus. Many students in these programs bus from Fennell or live in Hamilton and it would be a great deal easier.
Matthew, Graphic Designs - Integrated Media Arts Student

Eliminate the "temporary" buildings and develop a new facility downtown for the music program.
Robert

A combined math learning/literacy/peer tutor centre with small rooms available for group tutoring
Nick, Faculty Member

More places to students to do their work and socialize. There never seems to be a comfortable place to relax, or there just isn't enough seats.
Mike, Current Business - Marketing Student

Mohawk needs one common place where students would have MATH and LANGUAGE help without going around the college. The help would be provided for homework, tutoring, and study skills. If we provide true genuine care for our students, they would provide the results.
Faculty Member

A maintained Path connecting the Columbia Drive cat walk to the school side walks.
Andrew, Current Electrical Engineering Technology - Control Student

A Daycare centre for the children of students and staff members is badly needed. Not only would this be beneficial to single parents that cannot attend college due to a lack of daycare, but it would be a great way for ECE students to get first hand experience.
Chris, Staff

A pool to swim in
Shawn, Current Television Broadcasting Student

Mohawk definitely needs to create more lounges for students so that we will have a place to go and study or relax.
Iris-Katarina, Current Social Service Worker Student

On the "Main Street" include areas wired for speakers/microphones/video... for use by music students and special events.

Digital signs throughout all campuses.

Establish a Learning Centre/Commons within the library

Cluster together the communications centre, peer tutoring, math assistance  with integration of advising and learning/study skills. The centre will support seamless and continuous learning for students, staff efficiencies and service promotion. A Learning Centre provides the clustering of academic service in a way that makes sense to students and does not require a organizational restructure. A Learning Centre at all campuses would provide all students with efficient and consistent service, a consistent terminology for service promotion as students move between campuses and a strategic corporate strategy to support the learning of all students. Jaynn, Faculty

More group project areas with computer access.
Whitney, Current Architectural Technology Student

Smaller class sizes for first year, first semester students.....100 is not condusive to acceptable student retention. Failing that we need a math learning centre where tutoring can exist in a more aggressive manner than now.
Anonymous

One stop shopping area for math help, literacy help, peer tutoring, with a good work environment for small group tutoring.
Gillian, Faculty

More outdoor seating areas with tables for non-smoking students.
Agnieszka, Current Environmental Technology Student

Create and maintain an active learning, help and testing centre, providing a central area for help in language, math, peer tutoring, assessment testing and assessment material help and testing for DS and special testing (with a charge for the last testing). This would streamline the above functions avoiding, redundant staffing and redundant functions, but more importantly provide a much better help/testing service to both students and faculty and staff.
Faculty Member

Business Centre: Cluster conference, board, meeting/presentation rooms in one area or wing. Business Centre would include; 24 hr security/access control, multi-functional document centres (print, copy, scan, fax), cafe facilities, I/T support and hosting infrastructure and potential rental/host opportunities.
Staff Member

An overhaul/replacement of F-wing that considers the needs of the Music Dept. as well as the Media Dept., and that creates a synergy between the two program areas. There are opportunities here, but these students and faculty are isolated physically from each other. Push us together!
Carol, Current Applied Music Student

Digital pixel boards across campus that display class timetables, locations, cancellations/changes. Similar to airport flight destination/departure screens. The information is directly pulled from corporate systems and eliminates the posting of hard copy schedules.
Staff Member

New and current modern up to date facilities to service students needs. One stop shopping for registration and new students. Improve student services and student life working areas.
Staff Member

Include a hydration station like the one here from Georgian College.
Lory, Faculty

Parking partnership with St. Joes Mountain - they are close by and seem to have the paved capacity.
Mike

Metered Parking for those who are just dropping in.

More than one "Welcome" desk. The campus is big and you can enter from everywhere. It would be nice to have an information desk on each side of the campus. Maps of the campus with the "you are here" location on it, located through out the campus.
Amy, Staff

Have an on-site day care facility
Environmental Tech Student

More parking
Lisa, Electronics Student

Flexibility. We need more classrooms that can serve as computer labs, lecture halls and as we move forward we'll need more facilities to do group work and collaborative spaces.
Jon, Staff

Addition of a Multi-storey car park over P10 to provide sufficient parking for current students, as well as head room for the additional 2000 expected from the new renovation.
Matt, Network Systems Student

Better support for alternative transportation modes:- Secure cycling lock-up facility with showers- Discounted or subsidized bus pass- Expanded carpool parking and a better promoted carpool permit
Matthew, Transportation Engineering Technology Student

It would be helpful and healthy to have a Recreation Centre with a full chiropractic/physiotherapy clinic.  We could also offer naturopathic services.
Marla, Staff

New Fitness Centre
Joanne, Office Admin Student

More washrooms with more toilets for women and men.
Brian, Current Student

More common tables with Ethernet and AC power plugs, like those in the I wing, but without the acoustics of the place. I find that I wing carries sound a bit much, and think that quieter acoustics would allow people to study more effectively.
Thomas, Electrical Engineering Technology - Control Student

A better place for social gathering with a nice cafeteria with lots of menu choices and LCD screens to stay informed with the world
Mohamed, Cardiovascular Technology Student

Parking is something that definitely needs to be expanded. It is already at capacity before 11, and people are forced to park on the grass.

Jonathan, Mechanical Engineering Student

Alternate energy, wind and solar power.
Jason, Current EETP Student

A pool.
Alicia, Therapeutic Recreation

More Parking Please!
Current Student

More study space for students. Walk around the hallways at common hour and the libraries are full and student are desperate for somewhere to meet with a group.
Kathy, Staff

We need to go green: no more white boards (plastic and chemicals, etc., go back to chalk boards!); more direct lighting (no more huge banks of fluorescent lights going on with one switch!); less pressure to do everything electrically.
Bernadette, Faculty

I'd like to see digital signage throughout the campus that could be used for both informational and directional purposes.  It could be controlled remotely, changed for special events, and used to eliminate wasteful, ugly paper signs.
Dan, Staff

Keep the food places open all year and for longer hours

LCD TVs around the College with important dates and information, and possibly a waterfall at the entrance of the College
Waqar, Continuing Education Student, IT Program

Enclosed (covered) walkway between student residence and main campus building (IT wing)
Mike, Computer Engineering Technology Student

More lawns and gardens - too many parking lots between buildings and grass.

Make student diversity the main theme, reflected in form and content.

More windows to let in the sunlight!

Get rid of the lockers.

I'd like to see students interacting with faculty and staff outside of the traditional classrooms - in creative learning spaces that have a real buzz happening.

More parking spaces.
