Student Priorities – Gerald Marshall Centre for Transportation

As a business partner within the community, Mohawk College recognizes that the Greater Golden Horseshoe is in need of skilled professionals.  With a growing gap in the number of skilled professionals retiring and those entering the workforce, Mohawk College is committed to increasing enrollment in apprenticeship programs to suit the needs of the business industry.  In 2006, the Marshall family made the single largest donation of $1.2 million, as a lasting tribute to father Gerald Marshall, founder and owner of G. Marshall Transport Ltd. The family continues to raise money for the Gerald Marshall Fund to support the transformation of the Stoney Creek Campus and enhance the college’s Truck and Coach Apprenticeship program.

The Gerald Marshall Centre for Transportation will provide students in the truck and trailer programs hands-on training.  It will include a state-of-the-art internal shop that will accommodate up to three full-sized tractor trailers for training at a time. The centre will allow Mohawk College to address the current labour shortage for the rapidly expanding transportation industry by increasing enrolment, specifically in the Truck and Coach Apprenticeship program.

Mohawk College is aware that support from our corporate partners, community residents and alumni is vital to the success of the project. By supporting the Gerald Marshall Fund, you have recognized the importance of providing students with a hands-on learning environment suited to ‘real world’ practices.

The Gerald Marshall Fund in collaboration with the Inspiring Opportunity Campaign focuses on four main strategies. Below is comprehensive chart designed to illustrate how the new Gerald Marshall Centre for Transportation plays a vital role in the campaign.
