Prevention and Training
The College will take proactive steps to reduce the risk of violence in the workplace through:
- Workplace design using the principles of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)
- Security and electronic measures [surveillance cameras, panic alarms, access control, emergency intercoms and phones]
- Administrative procedures such as reporting suspicious individuals, escort services [through Security or the Walk Smart program], cash handling and transportation measures and training
Training
Training and information related to workplace violence is available through Security Services and the Occupational Health and Safety Department.
- Crisis Prevention
- Developed by the Crisis Prevention Institute, this course is designed to promote Respect, Service and Safety at Work. The principles can be applied with customers and co-workers. There are a series of topic modules integrated within the course which will further enrich staff skills in resolving problematic workplace behaviours before they escalate.
- Rape Aggression Defence (RAD)
- The Rape aggression defence system is a program of realistic, self-defence tactics and techniques. The RAD System is a comprehensive course for women that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defence training. - Workplace Violence and Harassment Prevention
- This on-line training provides and overview of the college's workplace violence and harassment polices and procedures and an awareness of preventive measures. Training is recommended for all employees and is available through elearn @ Mohawk.
