OSAP FAQs
I've forgotten my OAN (Ontario Access Number), how do I get it reset?
Visit the Financial Aid Office of any College or University to have your OAN reset and make sure you bring your Social Insurance Card and one piece of government-issued photo I.D.
How and When will I know if I am entitled to OSAP?
You will be sent an email to your Mohawk College email address to let you know when, where and how to collect their OSAP fund.
How do I pick up my loan documents?
If you are attending college from September to April, you will pick up loan documents in the fall and winter terms. Your OSAP entitlement is divided in a 60%-40% split between the fall/winter terms. You are required to present your Social Insurance Card and validated Student Photo ID card one piece of government-issued photo ID when collecting your loan documents. At the time of pick up, you will be asked to declare financial information (i.e. income, scholarships etc.).
What if my situation changes?
Changes in course load may significantly affect OSAP entitlement. Be sure to speak with our staff if you are considering course changes. Let us know about any changes in your income before or during the study period (i.e. earnings/scholarships).
What do I do if my OSAP is late and I can't manage financially?
If there is a delay in processing your OSAP application through no fault of your own and you applied with accurate information, you may apply for a short term loan against your OSAP to a maximum of $500. Applications are available in the Financial Aid Office at Fennell and the Brantford, IAHS and Stoney Creek Student Services Offices. Emergency loans are not usually considered until the end of September so students are responsible to make their expected contribution from their own resources.
Can't make your OSAP funds last until the end of the term?
Budget counselling is offered through on-campus seminars sponsored by the Financial Aid Office throughout the academic year and hosted by the National Student Loans Service Centre. In addition, budget counselling is available from Catholic Family Services. Enquire in the Financial Aid or Learning and Disability Services Office.
