Human Services Foundation
The Human Services Foundation Certificate Program is intended to provide participants with a general awareness of various disciplines within the Human Services field to assist them in making credible and informed career decisions. The two-semester program will present a roster of courses designed to provide exposure to various study options within Human Services.
Students will participate in opportunities in the community to gain first-hand knowledge of the nature and demands of the work available to graduates of Human Services programs. Program participants will also complete some general education study which may be transferable to other programs of study. (Care must be taken, however, to ensure that students are not disadvantaged with respect to OSAP eligibility as the result of exemption opportunities.)
At least one program course in each semester will be delivered in a blended-learning format combining distance education and in-class delivery to offer students some flexibility and exposure to non-traditional delivery. In addition, the program of studies will integrate a variety of applied learning opportunities including field trips, and delivery of some components at community partners’ locations such as the Robert Land Centre, the Good Shepherd Centre, etc. to provide students with a controlled, ‘safe’ exposure to career opportunities and typical employment venues.
