- Apprentices must first register with the Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities prior to enrollment in the CYW Apprenticeship Program, Phone 1800-668-4479
- Theory content and “in-school” portion is deliverd during the day at the Fennell Campus
- Experiences will include opportunities to visit community agencies, field placements with a wide variety of age groups, and hands on activities in the classroom setting.
- The CYW Apprenticeship Certificate from the Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities is awarded upon successful completion of 4000-6000 “on-the-job” hours in addition to “in-school” CYW courses
- In addition to the CYW Apprenticeship Certificate, the apprentice may work towards an CYW Diploma upon successful completion of a College English and a specified number of courses
- Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program is also offered for senior secondary students to attend Child and Youth Worker Apprenticeship Training and work with employers in a co-op education work placement as registered apprentices
Background on Child and Youth Worker Apprenticeship program
- Specialize in supporting change with children, youth and their families experiencing a range of social, emotional and behavioural challenges
- Implement a range of prevention, intervention and treatment strategies for children, youth and their families including crisis intervention, conflict management, problem solving, counseling, activity programming, and group work
- Work with client challenges including difficult home situations, substance abuse, behavioural problems, and conflicts with the law
- Advocate for the rights of children and youth
- Participate in field placements including one with adolescent clients, one in a residential setting and one in a specialized setting

- Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) - Challenge exams are available for each course in the CYW Apprenticeship Program.
