Social Service Worker
Social Service Work is a profession regulated by the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. Social Service Workers subscribe to core values of helping others. These values include the right to choose, the right to equality, justice and access to service. Social Service Workers respond to the needs of individuals, families, groups and communities. As of Jan.2009, Mohawk College has offers an Social Service Worker "fastrack" program at the Mohawk Laurier Centre (Odeon Campus) map. It is the same program of study and courses but there is no summer break and students complete the 4 semesters in 16 months beginning every January. Students enjoy the urban campus with a variety of student rental accommodations in the heart of Brantford and the increasing educational presence shared with Nippissing and Laurier University.
Mohawk College’s Social Service Worker Program prepares students to develop the skills necessary to practice social service work in the province of Ontario. Students gain core helping skills such as interviewing, assessing the needs of others, working with groups and assisting communities to change. Students will also develop an understanding and ability to work within ethical frameworks and understand the importance of respecting the uniqueness and dignity of all people.
