Our college’s commitment to environmental sustainability was recognized during the Hamilton Victory Gardens’ annual volunteer appreciation harvest.

Mohawk donated more than 90 kilograms of produce from our community garden to Neighbour to Neighbour Centre and the Mohawk Students’ Association food bank.

During Smart Commute Week all students and staff are encouraged to ride a bike, take the bus, carpool or walk to Mohawk.

The Sustainability Office will be celebrating Smart Commute Week by hosting some exciting on-campus events! Stop by our booths in the C-Wing (near Starbucks) next week to learn about alternative options for commuting to Mohawk. Each day will have a unique theme, and some awesome prizes to be won.

The Hamilton Spectator has this story (opens new window) about the expanded community garden at Mohawk’s Fennell Campus. The community garden project began with just 12 plots in 2013. Mohawk’s Sustainability Office decided to expand the project in 2014 due to increasing demand. The community garden now hosts 47 plots for students and community members to use.

At Mohawk the two 2015 Kia model cars supplied and serviced by CarShare are parked on the north side of the athletic centre at the Fennell campus.

The community garden has been only around for two years but has seem to strike an interest among the Hamilton and Mohawk community.

Local farmers and patrons from the area had the opportunity to take a space in the garden to grow a plant of their choice, vegetable or fruit. Some of the donations from the garden were asked to be given the MSA food bank.
