What are they?
SMART Boards look similar to whiteboards, but have far more funcationality. They are interactive and use touch detection for user input – e.g., scrolling, right mouse-click – in the same way a mouse or keyboard detect input. A projector is used to display a computer’s video output on the interactive whiteboard, which then acts as a large touch screen. The SMART Boards typically comes with digital pens, which use digital ink and replace traditional whiteboard markers. At the end of the session, you are able to save any changes to the original presentation and share the session with your learners.
Why would you use them?
The SMART Board interactive whiteboard has the flexibility to engage all learning styles.
• Visual learners can easily see colorful, movable images and diagrams that the interactive whiteboard displays, even from the back of the classroom.
• Kinesthetic learners can interact and explore by moving letters, numbers, words and pictures with the touch of a finger.
• Auditory learners can be immersed in a complete multimedia experience .
You are able to easily capture the learning that happens over the lesson or activity.
How to use them at Mohawk?

- There are also several classrooms in A-wing with SMART Boards purchased by Human Services.
- There is a portable SMART Board, bookable here.
- If you would like to practice, book H101B; this training lab includes a SMART Board.
