Faculty may want to experiment with various teaching strategies: collaborative learning, classroom management, assessment, rubric development. Assistance with teaching resources and best practices can be requested. The Faculty Development Specialist may be able to assist or provide liaison with other faculty members.

  • Faculty can benefit most from a mentor within the academic department who can provide advice on the departmental policies and procedures, course design and delivery as well as appropriate teaching resources.
  • The faculty development specialist can provide assistance to the mentors and the new faculty member on setting up the mentoring process.

Classroom Observation - Teaching Squares
Want to sit in on another class to observe a peer?

  • Teaching Squares is a strategy that is designed for faculty who want to observe different teaching and learning styles.
  • The purpose of this program is for the faculty to observe other teaching styles and to borrow ideas for integration into their own teaching repertoire.
  • The Faculty Development Specialist can help to facilitate the formation of a peer group of 2-4 participants.

  • The Clifton Strengths Finder is a survey tool that helps individuals discover his/her talents. Strengths Quest provides valuable resources to faculty who want to implement strengths into their curriculum.
 

Centre for Teaching and Learning Support

Blog or Discussion group
The Teaching and Learning Blog is a vehicle for faculty to discuss and share information on teaching and learning. New ideas, teaching tips and reminders are posted on a regular basis to keep faculty informed of topics related to teaching and learning.

e-Learning
On-line learning is the responsibility of the e-Learning Services team. This team offers workshops, online resources and 1:1 consultation for web facilitated, web enhanced, blended and distance learning. If you are looking for assistance with learning managements systems , learning technologies  or online course design , this is the link for you!

 

Curriculum Design
The curriculum coaches, Lisa Pegg and Cathy Ozols are available to assist individual faculty and program departments with creating course outlines  and learning outcomes , designing or revising curriculum or preparing for program review .

Library Services Support for Faculty
Librarians are available to help you with collections to support your courses , teaching research skills instruction or assisting with plagiarism prevention … Librarians are organized by area, so click on the link for your liaison contact .

Teaching Resources
The staff in the Centre for Teaching and Learning and the Librarians work closely together to maintain links to teaching resources that are of particular interest to faculty. You will find a range of topics: Assessment, Classroom Management , Customized Learning Lesson Planning , etc.
