- Experience theory content and the in-school portion (only offered during the day) day release (6 hrs/day)
- Learn to assist in facilitating change in children, youth and their families to develop alternative behaviours which re-establish personal growth. Train to implement a range of preventative, intervention and treatment strategies for children, youth and their families.
- Experience in-class hands-on group activities to learn the skills necessary to be a CYW, field placements with a wide variety of age groups (6-21 year olds) in agencies that employ CYW's, and agency visits to explore different opportunities for future employment.
- In addition to the CYW Certificate of Apprenticeship, the apprentice may work towards an Ontario College Advanced Diploma in Child and Youth Worker by taking additional courses offered by Mohawk College.
- The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) is also offered to senior secondary students with the in-school portion at Mohawk College, plus a co-op education work placement with an employer as an apprentice. OYAP students may choose to continue in the CYW Apprenticeship program after participating in OYAP.
