Instructor for Blind and Visually Impaired - Rehabilitation Teaching

Highlights
- Learn to teach children and adults with visual disabilities to develop or enhance their independent living, communication, leisure, and basic orientation and mobility skills
- Develop techniques to create personal learning plans and individualized programs to build skills and confidence in the outlined skill areas with clients
- Develop specific techniques to identify the particular needs and interests of individual clients
- Experience practical learning under blindfold or low visual simulation
- Participate in a supervised, fourteen-week comprehensive (full-time) clinical fieldwork placement
- The only full-time, English-speaking program of its kind in Canada

Admission Requirements
- A college diploma or university degree, preferably in (but not restricted to) the Humanities, Arts or Education
- Previous related work or volunteer experience is strongly recommended
Note: Students who do not have access to a car or personal transportation may have limited field placement opportunities.
Note: Registered students who have been convicted of an offence under the criminal code for which they have not been pardoned may be denied the opportunity to enter clinical placement. A certificate of "Police Clearance" and document entailing vulnerable sector screening and a criminal records check will be requested by the field placement agency.
