Program Description
Instructor for Blind and Visually Impaired - Orientation and Mobility Graduate Certificate program
The Instructor for Blind and Visually Impaired - Orientation and Mobility program is the only full-time, English-speaking program of its kind in Canada. Students in the program will have the opportunity to:
- Learn to teach children and adults with vision losses to move safely, effectively, gracefully, purposefully, and independently
- Develop specific techniques to identify the particular needs and interests of individual clients
- Experience practical learning under blindfold or low vision simulation
- Develop techniques to create personal learning plans and individualized programs to build skills and confidence in the outlined skill areas with clients
Field Placement
- Participate in a supervised, 12-week comprehensive (full-time) practicum
- All students will be required to complete 3 different placement experiences at 3 different agencies
- Placements for this program can be in various locations throughout Ontario and Canada
- Students must prepare financially and personally to relocate and/or commute to their assigned placements. Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and within placements
