Bridging Program for Medical Laboratory Technology Diploma

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This unique diploma program is intended for internationally educated Medical Laboratory Technologists who wish to work in this role in Ontario. The program is 9 months in length and is divided into 3 semesters. The program consists of theory and laboratory sessions at the College, along with clinical placement. The program also includes sector-specific language courses and preparation for the CSMLS competency-based exam.

Participants, in consultation with the Program Manager, may take select courses to develop a learning plan.  Distance Education opportunities are also available.

Program applicants must go through a Prior Learning Assessment process with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science. Some of the coursework may also be of interest to technologists who are trying to re-enter the work force.

BURSARY FUNDING

Bursary funding is available through the Ontario Bridging Participant Assistant Program.

ENGLISH ASSESSMENT

How can I work as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in Ontario?
You must be registered with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario. (CMLTO) CMLTO is the regulatory body for Technologists in Ontario.
CMLTO is the body that issues the licence to practice in Ontario as a Technologist.   (http://www.cmlto.com)

How do I become registered with CMLTO?
As a internationally educated technologist, the first step towards registration is to begin a prior learning assessment process through the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science. (CSMLS) (http://www.csmls.org) CSMLS is the body that administers the certification examination for Medical Laboratory Technologists all across Canada. Successful completion of the certification exam is a requirement for registration with CMLTO.

How can the Mohawk College program address my needs?
Each successful applicant will receive instruction at the College consisting of theory and laboratory sessions. As well there are 675 hours of clinical experience incorporated into the program. Theory and laboratory sessions are designed to prepare the participant for the clinical experience and the CSMLS certification examination.  

There are also opportunities to take select courses and Distance Education options are available.
