Mohawk College offers various courses in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation:
Basic Rescuer - CPR(C)
This 6-hour course is designed for health-care professional and the public. Through theory, demonstration, hands-on practice, and skill assessment, you will learn to effectively manage respiratory and cardiac emergencies in adults, children, and infants as well as, two rescuer C.P.R. techniques. Basic Rescuer “C” is a pre requisite for RPN, BScN, Medical Radiation Sciences, etc. (Heart & Stroke Foundation certification)CPR Recertification - Basic CPR(C)
This 3-to-3.5 hour course is designed for health care professionals and the public who have previous certification at a Basic Rescuer level, preferably within the last 12-15 months. Skills demonstration and assessment of current performance standards are included.First Aid/CPR
This intensive 2-day course is taught according to National Safety Council standards, WSIB (ON) approved. It is designed to meet First Aid/CPR training requirements of industry and community personnel. This course is also a prerequisite for many college entry programs, e.g. PSW, ECE, CVT, DCT, Child/Youth Worker, Recreation & Leisure, Educational Assistant, Law & Security. Skills included are Respiratory/Cardiac emergencies, Bleeding/Shock, Sudden Illnesses, etc. Certification is valid for 3 years.Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
Use of Automatic External Defibrillator (AEDs). Hands-on training scenarios will provide students with the opportunity to gain competency in AED use. Note: This course is excellent preparation for Security staff, Fitness or Golf Club personnel, Paramedics, Firefighters, etc. Heart and Stroke Foundation Ontario completion card is issued to successful participants. Neonatal Resuscitation - Initial Certification - HSCINSCB1
Become a provider (initial) for Neonatal Resuscitation in this 15 hr course (7.5 self study & 7.5 lab) based on the American Heart Assoc./American Academy of Paediatrics guidelines. You MUST purchase text and complete chapters 1-9 PRIOR to attending class. Text is available in the McMaster Hospital bookstore - Titles. Class will consist of written tests, demonstrations and return demonstrations.
Biology Preparatory - BIOL10006
Examine the anatomy and physiology of the human body. Intended for mature students wishing to enter Practical Nursing or other Health Sciences/Health Care programs. This course is not a credit for BScN Nursing.CHALLENGE EXAM
Individuals with comparable prior learning are permitted to challenge this course for academic credit.
Childbirth Steps Prenatal Education - HSCIFL106
Prepare for the birth of your baby with confidence. The goal of our comprehensive prenatal program is to give you a positive outlook on the birth experience and a new awareness of the choices available to you. Topics include signs and stages of labour, the birth process, breathing and comfort techniques, epidural and pain medication options, medical interventions, cesarean birth, postpartum experience, the newborn, and breastfeeding.
