Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario
ILCO
The Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario is the professional organization for Law Clerks incorporated in May 1968, for the purpose of providing an organized network for the promotion of unity, cooperation and mutual assistance among Law Clerks in Ontario. It is the mandate of ILCO to provide and promote general and legal education to its members for the purpose of increasing their knowledge, efficiency and professional ability. In addition, ILCO strives to advance and protect the status and interests of the profession. The Law Society of Upper Canada established the name "Law Clerk" and permitted use of this title to members of ILCO in 1968.
Courses are offered through Distance Education only.
GENERALLY...A LAW CLERK SHALL:
- Have a general knowledge of the law, practice and procedures involved within the particular field of specialization;
- Provide services according to the specifications of statutory requirements, The Law Society of Upper Canada, principal's instructions and office procedures;
- Assist in maintaining the authority and dignity of the courts and the integrity of the legal profession;
- Conduct oneself in a professional, diligent and ethical manner.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
These courses are designed to help students prepare for the annual examinations of The Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario. Students register for the Provincial Examinations through ILCO.
RECOMMENDED: Experience in the legal field.
