Credential: Ontario College CertificateProgram Number: 941
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Palliative Care Certificate program for Personal Support Workers is a new and exciting opportunity for Personal Support Workers to become educated, knowledgeable and skilled in the delivery of front line end-of- life care to clients and their families while under the direction of the “regulated health professional”.
This program builds on the current skills of the Personal Support Worker and effectively explores the concepts of palliation within the PSW’s scope of practice. The program includes 5 theory courses and 1 field experience totalling 180 hours, examining topics such as client and family needs, loss, grief and caregiver support, communication and multicultural considerations, symptom management, ethical issues and stress and conflict management. The program follows standards developed by the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association plus guidelines presented in the CHPCA Palliative Care Training for Support Workers project.
Upon completion of all components of the program, students receive an Ontario College Certificate.
