PROGRAM DESCRIPTION 

The Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association (2002) defines palliative care as care that aims to relieve suffering and improve the quality of living and dying by helping patients and families address physical, psychological, social, spiritual and practical issues.

Students will examine hospice palliative care as a patient and family centered approach. Curriculum has been developed based on several gold standard documents developed by the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association. (CHPCA), the CHPCA Nursing Standards Committee, and the Canadian Nurses Association.  

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must be regulated health care professionals (e.g. RN, RPN, OT/PT, Social Worker, Dietician, Physician).  However, persons interested in Palliative Care but who are not members of a regulated health profession may apply to take individual courses, with Program Manager approval.

PROGRAM OF STUDIES

To receive the certificate, you must successfully complete the six required courses and the field placement. You must have permission from the Program Manager to register for the field placement. Medical clearance is required in order to register for the field placement with a flu shot mandatory between October and April.
