Personal Support Worker Certificate

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This 708-hour revised program has been approved by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities for the training of workers who provide personal care and support to people living at home and in long-term care facilities. This program consolidates and replaces the Health Care Aide and Home Support programs. The program will provide learners with the opportunity to develop the attitude, approach to clients and skills critical to the well-being, comfort, safety and health of the people they support.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Age 19
  2. Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent with English, year 4, general level; Mathematics, year 2, general level
  3. New Ontario Curriculum English: English, grade 12 C or (U) Mathematics: grade 10, applied or academic
  4. Ability to read, write and verbally communicate in English
  5. Appropriate level of fitness is required so students can complete the practical components

Mature students not meeting admission requirements must participate in admission tests and may be required to complete preparatory courses.

Accepted applicants must successfully complete CPR Basic Rescuer and Standard First Aid training prior to their first clinical module.

Accepted applicants will be required to provide an up-to-date immunization record prior to the clinical experience.
