Upgrading - ACE Courses

All students wishing to enroll in an ACE Distance course must first complete the Learn to Learn course.

This 20-hour ONLINE course will help to determine if you have the necessary personal, computer and academic skills to successfully participate in ACE Distance courses. You will receive help to develop an Individualized Training Plan (ITP) based on your goal, and you will continue to be provided with advice, follow up and encouragement in partnership with your on-line teachers once you have registered in the ACE courses of your choice.

This is not intended to prevent you from registering in an ACE Distance course; it is intended to get you started as quickly as possible taking the right courses.

LEARN TO LEARN REGISTRATION PROCESS:

  1. You can start any day throughout the month.
  2. Visit www.acedistancedelivery.ca
  3. WHO MUST TAKE THE LEARN TO LEARN COURSE?
  4. All students registering for an ACE Distance course for the first time must take the Learn to Learn course.
  5. All students who have enrolled in an ACE Distance course during the past eight months who withdrew or have not been successful must take the Learn to Learn course.
  6. All students who have enrolled in an ACE Distance course during the past eight months who have either completed a course or are making good progress in the course they are currently enrolled in do not need to take the Learn to Learn course as a prerequisite for enrolling in another course.

FAQ

Are all the ACE courses available online?
Yes, all courses are offered online.

Back to FAQs

What is the meaning of the number of hours given for each course?

The number of hours shown are “equivalent classroom hours”. Thus, the workload for a 120 hour distance education ACE course would be about the same if you took a course through traditional classroom delivery that is offered approximately 5 hours per week. We estimate that the student workload for one course is approximately 10 – 15 hours per week. The ACE courses are delivered during a 22 week period.

 Back to FAQs

What about textbooks?
The Distance Education office staff will send a textbook request through to the ACE textbook contact and you will be couriered the appropriate textbooks shortly thereafter.

Back to FAQs

Are the courses self-paced?
No, there are specific start and end dates for these courses and a schedule for course activities. You must follow the schedule so you can complete all the course work on time and be marked before your final exam.

Back to FAQs

Where do I write exams, if there are any?
Most ACE courses have online final exams. If there was a final in-person exam, you would book that through the Distance Education Exam website.

If you live outside a 100 km radius from the college, you are eligible to write with a proctor at another University or College test centre. See complete exam details at the Distance Education website.

Back to FAQs

What are the computer requirements?
You need a Pentium class computer with Windows 95 or better with an Internet connection and the most up-to-date browser possible. Although all OntarioLearn courses will work with a dial-up connection, it is preferable to have hi-speed access as some files and links are not able for viewing through a dial-up connection.
