Lync has updated to Skype for Business

Beginning 15 December 2016, Lync 2013 on Windows workstations will upgrade to Skype for Business. It's the same app as Lync, with a refreshed visual style.
This update does not affect desk phones, Mac workstations, or mobile phone apps.

Skype Meetings and Conferences

Dial-In Conference Moderator Controls

If you are not controlling your Skype meeting/teleconference using the Skype for Business desktop application, you must dial into your conference from your phone in order to act as the moderator. All conference calls require a moderator to admit attendees to the meeting

Lync teleconference speaker phones can be reserved through the IT Service Desk in Fennell room C118. Confirm that your meeting room has an active internet connection well ahead of your scheduled meeting time.

Corporate Mobile Policy

All college-owned mobile devices (phones, tablets, internet hubs/sticks) are subject to the College's Wireless and Cellular Technology policy (opens PDF, 1.2mb) (CS-1503-2007)

Lost or Stolen Phones

  1. Contact Bell Mobility immediately (1-800-667-0123) to disable service. Any charges incurred while the phone is active and out of your possession will not be refunded.

Current Voice & Data Plans

Ministry of Government Services plans (opens PDF, 51kb) are in effect as of 1 January 2015.

Cancellation or Temporary Service Suspension

It is the responsibility of the mobile subscriber’s supervisor to contact the IT Help Desk to request suspension or cancellation of a mobile service.

  • Temporary Suspension - A number can have all service suspended at a reduced cost of $5 per month. The contract will be extended for each day that the phone is suspended.
  • Cancellation - Cancelling a number before the end of its 2-year contract will result in early termination fees. The minimum cancellation period is 30 days. 

Upgrade an Existing Mobile Phone

Mobile phones are eligible for upgrade at the end of the 2-year contract term. All phones and accessories are purchased at the discretion of your department.

  • Upgrades before 24 months must pay an early upgrade fee, billed to your Bell Mobility account.

Upgrade Procedure

Part 1 - Create Order Ticket

Submit the following information by e-mail to helpdesk [at] mohawkcollege.ca. Requests with incomplete information will not be processed.

  1. Mandatory - Scanned PDF copy of fully signed and completed Acknowledgement of Responsibility form. Download the College mobile policy and print the form on page 6 (opens PDF).
  2. Mandatory - User's name.
  3. Mandatory - User's mobile phone number.
  4. Mandatory - Model of phone (including size 32/64/128 GB) approved for purchase. Check pricing first. Go to Teletron.ca and sign in with username mohawk and password college
  5. Optional - AppleCare+ $169.00. Orders with AppleCare+ cannot be cancelled or changed once processed. Read more about AppleCare+ (opens new window)
  6. Optional - Accessories from Teletron's selection (case or car charger).
Part 2 - Approval of charges and invoice payment

When your device has been ordered, you must confirm the total expense and reply with a FOAPAL number for payment. Phones will not be released until cost approval and FOAPAL number have been recorded in your ticket.

Purchase a Net-New Mobile Phone

All phones and accessories are purchased at the discretion of your department. Services are subject to a 2-year contract for phones.

Mobile Travel & Roaming Outside of Canada

Travelling without a roaming package can result in hundreds, possibly thousands, of dollars in foreign data and network usage. Bell Mobility is not obligated to refund roaming charges if packages were not requested before your departure.

Roaming package requests must be submitted to the IT Help Desk helpdesk [at] mohawkcollege.ca a minimum of 4 business days in advance and must including the following information

  1. Your destinations.
  2. Travel dates.
  3. The mobile number(s) of ALL devices you will be using (phones, tablets, iPads, USB mobile sticks).
  4. The specific voice, text, AND data packages required. Each device requires its own packages. See below for current options.

Roaming package subscriptions are in effect for 30 days from the activation date.

Turn off Data Roaming & use Airplane Mode

If you have NOT selected roaming packages you must ensure that Data Roaming has been disabled on your phone. To be completely safe, we recommend turning on Airplane Mode outside of Canada and using only Wi-Fi hotspots for internet access.
