Consultation with students is a vital component of the Fennell Campus Renewal project, and our students have sent a clear message that the existing on-campus athletic and recreational facilities are insufficient in meeting contemporary needs and expectations. The development of the new Mohawk Recreation Centre will satisfy the needs of our staff and students, and produce a facility that meets current accessibility, energy efficiency and aesthetic standards.

The Mohawk Recreation Centre will be located west of Governor's Boulevard, and will be visible from Fennell Avenue. Adjacent to the MSA Plaza and Student Residence, and connected to the Student Centre by bridge, the Mohawk Recreation Centre will help frame a Student Life District on campus and enhance the Mohawk brand and identity.

The Mohawk Recreation Centre will house gymnasiums, a fitness centre, multi-purpose studios, and an indoor track in more than 64,000 square feet of stunning, newly constructed space. The new facility will also include a café and other common areas for socialization, as well as office and meeting space for students and staff.

Not only will the Mohawk Recreation Centre serve to expand intramural programs and become a destination for Varsity Team events, the facility will also provide students and staff with the opportunity to participate in on-campus activities, access a wide range of health and lifestyle related services and, most importantly, become active members in the on-campus community. The recreation centre will create new opportunities for student employment and hands-on learning experience, contribute greatly to the overall student experience by providing a number of social benefits through healthy and active lifestyles, and also contribute to student recruitment.
