Admission Requirements
Minimum requirements for admission to the Practical Nursing (PSW to PN Bridging Stream)
NOTE: This is a limited enrolment program. Possession of the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission to the program.
Applicants are required to:
1. Apply through OCAS to program number 758 Practical Nursing (PSW to PN Bridging Stream)
2. Submit proof of completion of the following courses by the deadline of Friday Dec. 2nd, 2011:
3. Submit proof of completion of a Personal Support Worker Certificate program in Accredited Ontario Colleges since 2006, by the deadline of Friday Dec. 2nd, 2011.
- Grade 12 English C or U
- Grade 11 or 12 Mathematics C, M or U (M or U recommended)
- 2 Grade 11 or 12 Sciences
- these are the same requirement for applying directly to the Practical Nursing program
Upon verification of points 2 and 3, applicants will be invited to:
4. Take the Health Occupation Aptitude Examination (HOAE) test ($50 fee) arranged with the Mohawk Pre-Admission Testing Centre. The deadline to write the exam will be Friday Dec. 9th, 2011.
Upon successful completion of point 4 (HOAE testing), applicants will be invited to:
5. Complete a questionnaire which will be reviewed by the academic area.
Selected candidates from the above pool will be authorized to register in two CE bridging courses offered in January 2012:
- HSCI 10142 Transitional Concepts (45hrs)
- HSCI 10143 Bridged Anatomy and Phyiology (45hrs)
Candidates successfuly completing the two aforementioned CE bridging courses will be joining Semester 2 of Practical Nursing for Spring/Summer 2012.
Effective January, 2005 the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) requires all applicants for registration or reinstatement from within Canada to provide a recent Criminal Record Synopsis (CIPC check) as part of the registration process.
Pre-Clinical Requirements:
All accepted applicants are required to have the following completed prior to clinical placement and are responsible for the associated costs:
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification, C/AED – Health Care Provider Level; recertification required annually while in the program
- Up-to-date immunization record
- Mask fit testing, required every two years while in the program;
- Up-to-date Police Clearance – Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS)*
*Registered students who have been convicted of an offence under the criminal code for which they have not been pardoned may be denied the opportunity to enter or continue in a clinical placement while in the program.
