Program Description

Gain the knowledge and skills necessary to work in Perinatal Nursing with an in-depth study of high risk obstetrics!

Combining theory and hands-on clinical work, learn to promote family-centered care for childbearing families. Develop specialized knowledge and skills to provide safe, competent nursing care to families across the childbearing cycle, including antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum complications in pregnancy and management of high-risk patients in emergencies.

This program helps prepare RN's for the Canadian Nurses Association Perinatal Nursing Certification Examination.

Potential and in-progress students must be aware that most agencies accepting clinical/placement students require you to be fully vaccinated with Health Canada approved vaccines. If you are not fully immunized, it may have a significant impact on your ability to participate in clinical/field placement.

Admission and Registration

You do not need to apply to begin this program. Simply ensure you meet the requirements listed on the Admission Requirements webpage prior to registering.

  • Certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario as a current RN or graduate nurse registration with the respective provincial/territory regulator.

Interested in taking a single course? Provided you have the appropriate prerequisites, the courses in this program can be taken individually.

Additional Information

On successful completion of this program, you must apply for the Certificate in Perinatal Nursing and the Acknowledgement of Completion for the High Risk Obstetrics specialty.
