English Admission Requirements

English Requirements: Mohawk College conducts English Assessment tests for all domestic and international students. Mohawk uses the Canadian Language Benchmark Test (CBLT) for our assessment, where a score of 7 is required in each section of Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. To gain entrance to your program you need a minimum English proficiency of IELTS 6.0 with no band below 5.5.

To support student success, we recommend the student study well beyond the band they need. Communicating well in English is the single most important element to ensure good marks and English skills are a critical determinant to getting a job. Students may also take some courses in their program along with English intensive training. Post graduate certificate programs require a higher level of English proficiency to be successful. Your accent will affect your ability to get a work placement opportunity so study English before you depart to get better prepared.

We offer four levels of English in our Applied Communications Program that are designed for students looking to improve their English so they can gain entrance to our College Programs. The CBLT Assessment on arrival will help us design a customized curriculum with a blend of Level 100, 200, 300, or 400 courses based on your needs.

For students with advanced English we recommend the "Applied Communications Program" in the General Arts & Science stream. This program provides English training with course credits and provides 4 months credit time toward " Off Campus Work Permit" requirements.
