Admission Requirements
A Program Coordinator will review your transcripts or mark sheets along with course descriptions from the courses you have taken. This information will allow them to compare what courses you have taken against the course material in the program to see if credit can be awarded. Their decision is final.
Admission Requirements - Advanced Standing:
- A diploma or a degree
- A minimum of 60 % average in final year of studies (limited seating available, preference given to merit).
- TOEFL minimum score of 550(213) or IELTS of 6.0 (with no band less than 5.5), or successful completion of Mohawk College GAS-AC Program.
Completing the English requirements in Canada allows students to get orientated to the Canadian culture - All prerequisite Math and first year course equivalents must be met prior to starting in the program - it is the students responsibility to ensure they have covered the advanced standing courses granted. We assume you have taken these courses in previous training.
- Prepare a cover letter addressed to the Coordinator of your program that outlines why you are interested in advanced standing in that program and what you plan to do upon graduation. Also outline how you feel you have completed the courses offered in the first two semesters of the program you are going into. Refer to the skills capabilities at the co-op website and reference them in your cover letter.
The admission requirements for Post-Secondary programs is available in our Programs section.
Why Not More Credit for Courses Already Taken?
Often students from India and other countries, are strong in the theory, but, weak in the applied laboratories as they are not able to demonstrate the skills required to perform applied tasks effectively.
Based on experience, students need applied work opportunities to be successful on the job. In the upper semesters, we focus on the applied components in skill building labs connected to lectures, using the latest equipment, technology and software. Sophisticated labs and equipment are available at Mohawk College. Our format enhances the probability of student success and supports advanced training at the Degree and Masters levels. Most importantly it prepares students well for the job market and a new life in Canada. Our coop paid work programs have been designed to provide the knowledge, skills and ability to perform effectively on the job. There is enough time to understand the nuances of the Canadian culture, adjust to a Canadian English accent, and prepare for effective job interviews. At Mohawk College we are serious about student success. See what the graduates have said about this program and talk to them.
