Off-Campus Work Program

An off-campus work program has been approved in Ontario.

Citizenship & Immigration Canada (CIC) has launched a new online application process for those applying for an Off Campus Work Permit. Complete, sign, pay and submit your application all online!

To be eligible for an off campus work permit you must:

Have a valid Study Permit

Be registered as a full time student in a Post Secondary program

Have been a full-time student for at least 6 of the last 12 months
(ESL students are not eligible)

Be in good academic standing

Have no outstanding fees owing to the College

How do I apply?

To apply for an Off Campus Work Permit you must first create an ePass account on the CIC website. Then you will need to create a MyCIC account. MyCIC is your personal space on the CIC website. To create your accounts visit: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/e-services/mycic.asp

Once you have created your MyCIC account, select the link entitled My Off Campus Work Permit Process. Complete the Request for Initial Eligibility Verification (formerly paper forms IMM5581/82).

CIC will inform the College of your request. We will verify your information is accurate, and that you meet the eligibility requirements. You will receive a message on MyCIC to confirm that the request has been approved.

When you receive the approval you will be able to complete the Work Permit application, while logged into MyCIC, by selecting Continue the Off Campus Work Permit Process . There is a charge of $150 to process the application.

Note: If you are renewing your Off Campus Work Permit, and had previously completed a paper application, you must continue using a paper application (you will not be eligible for the new online process).

Why Has CIC Created an Online Application?

CIC is making use of technological developments that will improve services to students. This new e-service offers students the convenience of submitting their application online.

Off Campus Work Permit (OCWP) - Most common issue results in ineligibility

The CIC reported that the most common issue that results in ineligibility is submitting an OCWP application prior to receiving a study permit extension. Therefore, students who require both a study permit extension and an OCWP should either:

Submit their study permit application first. Once the student receives their study permit extension, then submit the OCWP application,
or

Submit both applications together, using the study permit postal code. The student permit will be processed first, then the OCWP. Submitting in this manner may cause refusal of the OCWP application if the student cannot be issued a study permit for any reason
