102.1 The Edge Host and New Music Writer/Producer, Alan Cross, to take home honourary Andy Award at Mohawk College's 26th Annual Mediafest

Hamilton, ON – April 11, 2005: Alan Cross, the host for the ongoing history of New Music, will be presented with an Honourary Andy Award at the 26th Annual Mohawk Mediafest on Friday, April 15, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. in the McIntyre Theatre at Mohawk College in Hamilton. The prestigious award, given by the Communications Media Department, recognizes Cross for his invaluable contributions to, and achievements in, the Canadian radio broadcast industry.

Previous Honourary Andy Award recipients include Steve Smith (The Red Green Show), Brian Williams, Ernie Coombs (Mr. Dressup), The Royal Canadian Air Farce, Gordon Pinsent, Hockey Night in Canada, and Mohawk alumnus Matt Hayes.

Mohawk Mediafest is an annual awards show that honours student excellence in the four programs of the Communications Media Department: Advertising, Broadcast Journalism, Radio Broadcasting and Television Broadcasting. Mediafest also carries the distinction of being one of the province’s longest running College awards shows.

The Andy is named after Agnes M. Anderson, known as Andy, a dedicated Hamilton broadcaster who encouraged and helped many young people beginning successful and rewarding careers in the broadcasting field.  This awards show honours her commitment to youth in the media as well as the hard work and dedication of the students in the Media Communications Department.

The 26 th Annual Mohawk Mediafest ceremony takes place Friday, April 15, 2005, at 7:30 p.m. in the McIntyre Theatre, Mohawk College, Hamilton. Food and refreshments will be served immediately following the show in the school’s North Cafeteria.
