Media Release - September 7, 2005A Community Tradition 24 Years in the Making
HAMILTON, ON – September 7, 2005 : The Annual Mohawk College Garage Sale, in support of the United Way, started in 1981 with only 50 vendor booths in the smallest parking lot of the Fennell Campus. Today, the sale has grown to include 205 vendors and is held in one of the largest parking lots on the Fennell Campus. Hundreds of devoted vendors from all over Southern Ontario have continued to return year after year for the same booths, which they now have come to claim as their own. In the quiet morning hours, the vendors transform a typical parking lot into an alluring showcase of household items, handmade crafts and one-of-a kind antiques as they prepare for the thousands of shoppers to attend. Over the years this event has grown into the largest garage sale in all of Southern Ontario!
Over 5000 shoppers are expected each year, which is a huge increase from the initial 500 shoppers. New features are added yearly, and those who attend the sale can now enjoy the Drop & Shop Fun Zone for child-free shopping, the Commercial Alley featuring local businesses and two concession stands offering lunch, beverages, and now for the second year, breakfast.
This community tradition is truly a garage sale shopper’s dream and a great way for the whole family to have fun while supporting a great cause, the United Way. With so many different and unique vendors there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy. This year the sale will be held on Saturday, September 10 th from 9am – 2pm (rain date - Sunday, September 11), so be sure to mark it on your calendar. You won’t want to miss out!
