Mountaineer Women Take Fastball Twin Bill!
The
Mohawk women swept the visiting Canadore Panthers of North Bay 9-5 and
6-0 in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association fastball play at Mohawk
Sports Park Friday.
Katie Westboy picked up the opening game
win, recording eight strikeouts. She also got good run support as the
Mountaineers finally saw their bats come alive. Becky Matson had three
RBI for the home side. Dana Steckle and Lauren Battaglia each drove in
two runs and Samantha Tubman brought home one as well.
In the
nightcap, Jenny Koschanow pitched a complete game five- hitter and
fanned nine. The Mountaineers exploded for five runs in the second
inning. The big hit was Steckle's three run double. Megan Nadwodny and
Katey Trevaskis also drove in runs.
Head Coach Brian Weller was
pleased with his team's effort. "Both games were all around good games.
Our bats were much better. We scored some runs and had lots of people
on base and in both games our pitchers were fantastic, keeping us in it
from the beginning to the end. (We had) hardly any errors, it was just
an all around excellent game."
The Mountaineers, now 3-3, are home again Tuesday October 3, when Conestoga visits Mohawk Sports Park at 5:30.
