Mohawk Women's Fastball Starts OCAA Season Friday!
The Mohawk College women’s fastball team is set to open its Ontario Colleges Athletic Association regular season this Friday (Sept. 15) when the Seneca Sting visits Mohawk Sports Park at 5:30 pm. Mountaineers’ head coach Brian Weller, whose team won the bronze medal at last year’s OCAA Championship, has reason to be hopeful of another good campaign. He has a pair of pitchers in Jenny Koschanow and Katie Westoby returning after stellar rookie seasons. Also back are catchers Dana Steckle and Meaghan Nadwodny as well as middle infielder Katey Trevaskis. But coach Weller is particularly pleased with what he considers a very good group of prospects which has joined the squad.
“Much of our success last year rested on our pitching, said Weller, “but this year the new players should give us a better overall team. We still have our pitching and catching core from last year, but I expect to be much stronger up the middle and especially in the outfield with this new group of players.”
