VARSITY ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION AWARDS
Varsity athletes accumulate points throughout their Varsity career at Mohawk College and are recognized at four different levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Merit. Points are awarded based on the athletes’ participation on all our varsity teams with extra points given for OCAA All Star Selections and Championship performances.
The Bronze category for an accumulation of 10 – 20 points.

Leah Maurizio – participated with women’s soccer team for 3 years and cross country for 1 year earning a total of 42 points.
Kathleen Manson – achieved 42 points while participating with badminton.
Pavel Palma – has accumulated 51 points while playing men’s rugby.
Rachel VanHartingsveldt – after 4 years with women’s volleyball has earned 51 points.
Cam Henschel – has tallied 51 points participating with men’s volleyball.
Codey Forrest – also participating on men’s volleyball for four years earning 57 points. Codey also established a Mohawk record as his team in our Campus Recreation Mountaineer Day has won 3 consecutive years.
Steven Johnston – accumulated a grand total of 57 points while participating on the men’s rugby team for four years.
Ian Cameron – participated on the men’s volleyball team for four years, earning 62 points.
Leah Waxman – one of our most successful Female athletes in Mountaineer history, Leah completes her career with women’s volleyball and after five years has acquired a grand total of 73 points.

To achieve this honour, a student-athlete must be named to their provinces all star team (1st or 2nd), or have won a OCAA provincial gold or silver in a CCAA sport, and must have achieved honours at their institution.
IAN CAMERON
A Pre-Health student and a member of the men’s volleyball team. He received an OCAA 2nd Team League All Star and averaged 3.60 ppg leading the Mountaineers in scoring.
JENNIFER KNOWLES
A member of the women’s volleyball team she was an OCAA 1st Team League All Star, OCAA West Division Scoring Champion and a CCAA All Canadian leading the Mountaineers with 3.72 ppg.
MITCHELL SAWATSKY
He averaged 2.40 ppg from his rookie position with the men’s volleyball team and was selected an OCAA 2nd Team League All Star.
CCAA Athlete of the Month & CCAA All Canadian
One male and one female are recognized from each province in their respective sport during pre-determined months as athletes of the month. Mohawk College was honoured when one of our women’s volleyball players was awarded the Athlete of the Month for Ontario in November.
Each year the OCAA Coaches in Varsity Sports which go to a National Championship select OCAA all stars at the end of the season. Only a select one or two of the top Ontario All Stars are selected and named All Canadian. Mohawk is proud to have 1 All Canadian athlete this year.
