Construction Engineering Technician – Building Renovation Diploma
The Construction Engineering Technician - Building Renovation program at Mohawk College is an Ontario College Diploma offered at the STARRT Institute in Stoney Creek (Hamilton), Ontario.
Students in the program will develop the skills and training required to join the entrepreneurial trend of do-it-yourself (DIY) home and commercial renovation. The program teaches practical knowledge and skills needed to operate a small business.
Students will explore design and architectural styles, interior finishes, cabinetry, millwork and lighting systems. Graduates will have acquired specialized training in carpentry hand and power tools, construction materials, wood and wood products, interior and exterior finishes, and workplace safety.
Students will learn to apply construction and project management principles to renovation projects including:
- project scheduling
- materials resourcing
- cost estimating
- risk analysis
- sub-contracting
- cost control strategies
- project closeout
The Construction Engineering Technician - Building Renovation Diploma program gives students the opportunity to:
- understand the importance of integrated waste management and incorporate the 3R's (reduce, reuse, recycle) into renovation projects
- experience an intensive hands-on education consisting of various lab and practical projects
- acquire practical knowledge and skills needed to operate a small business
- pursue professional affiliations including membership in the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT)
