Program Description

Power Engineering Techniques Certificate

The Power Engineering Techniques program at Mohawk College is a one-year Ontario College Certificate offered at the STARRT Institute in Stoney Creek (Hamilton), Ontario.

Students will experience the rewarding challenges of operating and maintaining diverse equipment related to a power plant. The Power Engineering Techniques program provides students with the opportunity to:

explore the use of steam and hot water boilers, air compressors, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment
understand the use of large reciprocating engines fueled by natural gas and emergency generators driven by diesel engines
prepare for the Technical Standards and Safety Authority 4th Class Operating Engineering, Gas and Oil Burner Technician III examinations

Students have the option of continuing in 2nd semester as a Power Engineer or Utilities student if enrolled into September program.

Work Term

Graduates of the program will be required to obtain additional steam time experience beyond that of the 12-week work term. The professor will provide an explanation at the start of the program.
