Who We Are
Case Managers work with students to develop a personal program of services and academic accommodations. Case Managers review psycho-educational assessments and other documentation to develop confidential academic accommodation plans. Services Include:
- Advising confirmed applicants to Mohawk College and assisting with educational planning
- Assessing and making appropriate referrals for suspected learning disabilities
- Offering guidance on financial issues specific to students with disabilities
- Referring students for academic accommodations, such as the services of a Learning Strategist
- Promoting student independence by counselling on disability issues and self-advocacy
- Counselling for transition to the work place for other post-secondary programs
Learning Strategists work with students with confirmed Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder, or Acquired Brain Injury to teach strategies to help students succeed in their programs. Services include:
- Assessing academic strengths and challenges
- Developing sets of learning strategies to meet individual needs
- Teaching academic skills such as study strategies, note-taking techniques, communication formats, reading strategies, time management, and organization
- Assessment of, and training in, the use of assistive technology
- Supporting transition to the workplace
