The Joyce Centre for Partnership & Innovation
The Centre for Climate Change Management at Mohawk will be housed at The Joyce Centre for Partnership & Innovation, slated to open in Fall 2018. In recognition of Mohawk’s leadership in sustainability, the Canada Green Building Council selected the JCP&I as a national pilot project to demonstrate its new net-zero energy carbon standard and validation process. The JCP&I won the Council’s Innovation in Sustainability Award for 2017.
The Centre for Climate Change Management at Mohawk is a collaboration between Mohawk College, the Cities of Hamilton and Burlington and Sustainable Hamilton Burlington, with funding from the Ontario Ministry of Environment and Climate Change. The Centre is supporting regional action on climate change and providing opportunities for students to live, learn and lead in the development of applied climate change mitigation strategies and initiatives.
The Centre is home to three new programs:
- Bay Area Climate Change Office — Supporting and strengthening a regional, coordinated approach to climate action in partnership with the Cities of Hamilton and Burlington.
- Industry Partnerships Initiative — Assisting local businesses in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and providing work integrated learning opportunities for students to prepare for success in the low carbon economy.
- Campus Carbon Management Initiative — Establishing and sharing best practices and tools for measuring and reducing emissions among Ontario colleges.
