Redeemer goalkeeper Linden Bontkes stopped Mohawk’s Adam Villella’s penalty in the 90th minute to preserve the Royals come from behind 2-1 victory over the Mountaineers in OCAA men’s soccer in Ancaster, Saturday (Sep. 15).

Villella had already scored from the spot, to give the Mountaineers a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute and that goal stood until the 47th minute when Jeremy Petrusma scored on a penalty.

Then in the 75th minute, Zach Kingma got around a defender and scored the winner for the royals.

Mohawk fell to 1-2, while Redeemer improved to 2-0-1.

Mountaineers’ head coach Carmine Lancia said his side was a bit unfortunate.

“We weren’t our sharpest today. But there was still the opportunity to tie the game in the 90th minute and come out with a point.”

Lancia said there’s no time to worry about what happened. “The schedule is so tight and we’re got a big game at St. Clair Tuesday (Sep. 18). We have our heads down. We have to pick it up for Tuesday,” said the coach.
