Mohawk Women Cagers Sustain First Game Defeat

The Mohawk women's basketball team dropped a 62-51 decision to the University of Toronto Mississauga Eagles, in the opening game of their OCAA regular season Saturday (Oct. 20).

Sam Pocrnic led the Mountaineers with 29 points. Beth Minielly and Kayla Calura had five points each.

Jade Addai had 19 points for UTM, while Jiana Alnajjar had 17 points along with 20 rebounds.

"We just kept falling behind. We made runs to even things up, but, by the end we just ran out of gas," said Mohawk head coach Kevin Duffy. "We are a very young team and we certainly improved from our initial outings, but we still have a long way to go to become a consistent, competitive team," Duffy said.
