The Mohawk women’s volleyball squad completed a weekend double over visitors from Sudbury Saturday (Nov. 24) at the DBARC.
After beating Boreal Vipers 3-0 Friday, they swept the Cambrian Golden Shield Saturday, by scores of 25-10, 25-13, 25-12.
Jessica Heidbuurt led the Mohawk scoring again with 14 kills and added five blocks. Kaelyn Emslie had 7 kills. Kinsley Child added to her Mountaineer career record for digs, with seven.
Amanda Kuiper produced 29 assists.
Mohawk bettered their won-lost record to 5-3 and Cambrian dropped to 1-7.
While Mohawk dominated two last place teams over the weekend, head coach Matthew Schnarr was quick to point out his squad had a difficult opening to its schedule, playing the top five teams right out of the gate and were 3-3 in their first six matches. “So to have a chance to play games that were winnable and see a couple of players (in action) was very important to us.” The coach said you also learn a little bit about your character, in how you prep for these matches as a mature athlete. “Anybody can win on any given night. I think we learned a bit about our character and we got it done. We got it done well,” Schnarr said.
