The Mohawk Mountaineers made it five straight victories in OCAA women's volleyball in Welland Wednesday (Jan.30).
Mohawk needed just four games to defeat Niagara Knights 25-22, 20-25, 26-24, 25-19 and to improve to 11-4. Niagara dropped to 9-6, after their second defeat in a row.
Jessica Heidbuurt, who missed considerable time through injury earlier in the season, is getting the rust off and had eight kills. Jennifer Knowles also had eight kills, along with four aces and 19 assists. Amanda Kuiper recorded seven kills and 14 assists. Kaelyn Emslie collected 22 digs and three aces and Holly Clarke added 20 digs.
For Niagara, Jordan Koslowski had 18 kills, Natasha Desjardins produced 16 kills and Melissa McFadden had 38 assists.
Matthew Schnarr, who called himself a "proud coach," because of the way the team is playing, said his charges are working extremely hard.
"We had 96 digs in four sets. We are playing very well together. We need to keep our heads down and keep working," Schnarr said.
