The Mohawk men's basketball team turned in a strong effort, but fell thee points short, losing 80-77 to host George Brown at the Huskies' 41st Annual Tournament Saturday (Jan. 5).
George Brown is the eighth ranked team in Canada, but had its hands full against the young Mountaineer side.
Emanuel Otong continued his hot hand with 38 points and 14 rebounds. Milos Mladjan contributed 13 points and seven rebounds.
"(It was) a great game for this time of year," said Mohawk head coach Brian Jonker. "We battled and had opportunities to win. We are excited about the second semester," Jonker said.
Friday January 4, Otong scored two huge baskets to give the Mountaineers a 91-90 overtime victory over the St. Lawrence College Vikings of Kingston.
Otong forced overtime with fewer than four seconds to go in regulation time, when he tied the game 80-80. He then won the contest with six seconds left in overtime.
Otong had 25 points and eight rebounds for the Mountaineers. Cudjoe Masuka had 16 points and eight rebounds, while Jon Dulmage chipped in with 14 points and four boards.
Dulmage also scored three straight points from the foul line to tie the contest 88-88 late in OT.
Mohawk head coach Brian Jonker said it was an ugly first game back after a month without a game, but he agreed the win was the most important thing.
