Mohawk Wins Two, Loses Two In Men's Tournament Volleyball

Mohawk recorded split decisions on the opening day of the Niagara Knights Men's Volleyball Tournament Friday (Jan. 4).

The Mountaineers suffered a rusty three set loss to Conestoga (14-25, 28-30, 20-25), but bounced back smartly with a four set win over Georgian, which is 8-1 in OCAA play.

The set scores were 25-10, 25-23, 23-25, 25-23.

Saturday Mohawk completed pool play, taking St. Clair in four sets, 25-17, 22-25, 25-13, 25-6.

However, in the playoffs, Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) downed the Mountaineers in five sets. The scores were 25-16, 25-20, 23-25, 26-28, 12-15.

“Our goal of the tournament was to ensure everyone had the chance to play and grow, and we achieved it,” said head coach Vinny Saporito.

"We worked hard with everyone getting a chance to show what they're made of before the semester really begins (this coming week).
