The Redeemer Royals downed the Mohawk Mountaineers 25-19, 25-22, 25-23 in OCAA men's volleyball at the DBARC Friday (Jan. 25).
Elijah Lopez had eight kills and Rafael Leite and Joel Van Dyk added six apiece for the Mountaineers. Michael Kong had 27 assists.
For the Royals, Brayden Stoffers had 13 kills and Nick Bouius had eight. Jason Wildeboer fashioned 24 assists and Wesley Schilstra had 13 digs.
Mohawk saw it's record even up at 7-7 and Redeemer moved to 10-4.
Mountaineer head coach Vinny Saporito said Redeemer, currently number 10 in national rankings, are just a solid squad overall. "No matter what, they were going to bring a lot of heat towards us, but I think we just missed on three or four effort plays."
Mohawk has also been missing four players, out with concussions.
The Mountaineers have four games left, but only one against a nationally ranked team (Humber) and Saporito is confident the team can win the other games and be in good shape for a playoff spot.
