Mohawk Qualifies for OCAA Women's Indoor Soccer Championship

The Mohawk women's soccer team has earned a berth in the OCAA Women's Indoor Soccer Championship.

The Mountaineers finished with a 3-1 record at their Pool C Regional at Seneca College Wednesday March 6.

Mohawk beat St. Lawrence 5-0 in their opener. Daniela Cardillo, Sarah Ongarato, Caitlyn Laughlin, Sylvia LeMay (on a penalty shot) and Heidi Lasica were the goal scorers.

In game two, the Mountaineers bowed 3-0 to Fanshawe. It would be their only blemish in the tourney.

Game three was a narrow, 2-1 win over Durham as Laughlin scored both Mohawk's goals.

Then, the Mountaineers polished off Laurier (Brantford) 6-1.

Ongarato, Cassandra Vanderlaan, Laura Stankovic, Sarah Incretolli, Jessica Johnstone and Lasica scored for Mohawk.

Mohawk wound up in second place behind Fanshawe and both teams will go to the belairdirect OCAA Women's Indoor Soccer Championship, hosted by Humber College. It will be held at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan, March 21-22.
