Mrs Jennifer Spleit-Landry earned her Bachelor of Music in Performance on viola in 2005 from the University of Toronto, where she studied under world-renowned soloist Scott St. John. Her early instruction came from her mother, violinist Ilona Spleit, violist David Willms, and Dan Blackman, violist with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
Jennifer competed with great success as a soloist in music competitions and festivals for decades, and has performed across Ontario with many youth and professional ensembles including Boris Brott's National Academy Orchestra, the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra, and the Southern Ontario Chamber Music Institute.
Jennifer owns and operates her own music school in Hamilton, the Bel Canto Strings Academy, specializing in strings instruction. She works with over a 100 students on a weekly basis each year, giving private lessons to learners of all ages as well as teaching group lessons and conducting 5 string orchestras. Prior to founding Bel Canto, Jennifer spent five years as a strings instructor for the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board, teaching at 12 area public schools and conducting the 120-piece string orchestra the West Hamilton Strings in addition to running her private home studio. Jennifer's private students consistently earn high marks in Royal Conservatory of Music Examinations, and many have gone on to pursue music professionally after earning degrees at Canadian universities.
In addition to teaching strings and music theory, Jennifer enjoys an active life as a musician in Hamilton, arranging music for her string ensembles, recording with local bands, and performing chamber music at weddings and other special events.
