PCR Testing

Health Services is pleased to offer COVID-19 PCR testing for students and employees.

What is a PCR test?

Molecular Polymerase Chain Reaction (or PCR) testing, is a type of test that is used to diagnose COVID-19. A PCR test is not the same as the Rapid Antigen Tests required by anyone who has received an exemption from the college, or those who are not fully vaccinated.

For more information on PCR tests, visit the Public Health Ontario website.

Who is eligible for PCR testing?

PCR testing will be available by appointment only for current Mohawk students and employees (including contractors, the Mohawk Students' Association, Paragon, Chartwells, etc.).

In order to qualify for PCR testing, you must first complete the Ontario COVID-19 self-assessment. If the assessment recommends that you be tested for COVID-19, you can either download a PDF copy of the assessment result or take a screenshot of the result to email to healthservices [at] mohawkcollege.ca (subject: Request%20for%20PCR%20Test%20Appointment) and request an appointment time.

PCR tests are covered by the province and are only available to those who have been deemed by their Public Health unit to be a close contact of an active COVID-19 case, or those who are experiencing symptoms of the virus.

PCR tests will also be available to anyone who tests positive at a Mohawk College Antigen Screening Clinic. The PCR test will be used to confirm the results of the rapid antigen test.

This is not a paid testing service and testing is not available for the purpose of travel.

PCR Test Clinic Hours of Operation

Tests are available by appointment only, Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4pm. Testing location will be provided at the time of booking.

PCR tests will not be available at the Health and Wellness Centre located at Fennell Campus. PCR tests will also not be available at the Rapid Antigen Testing locations on campus.

Accessing Results

Test results will be accessible online, and follow up from any positive test result will be through the Public Health unit where you reside. In order to maintain a healthy campus community, if you become symptomatic on campus or you have been notified that you are a close contact of someone with COVID-19, you are asked to leave campus immediately and to begin self-isolating as soon as possible. You can then contact Health Services by email to book a PCR test. Health Services will arrange to have a nurse meet you at a safe location on campus.
