Explore creating and managing PDF markups, strategies for tracking changes, creating RFIs, quantity take-offs and customization tools to make Bluebeam ideal for the user. A basic understanding of construction contract documents and data flow is recommended. 12 hours.

Construction Blueprints and Methods – BLDG10011

Check Availability

Focus on building/planning codes and statutes, blueprint reading, and residential/commercial construction practices. Prerequisite: Sound math and English. 39 hours.

Construction Contract Bid Management – BLDG10089

Gain an understanding of Tender Documents for all project types and knowledge of computerized estimating and unit price control. Your role in the estimating team and importance of bid management is also covered. Prerequisite: BLDG10085. 39 hours.

Construction Job Site Management – BLDG10090

Check Availability

Develop skills in jobsite administration and documentation, layout, set up, surveying, supervision, and safety. Contract types and the Construction Lien Act will be discussed along with a review of the programs that are available to help in managing the jobsite. Prerequisite: BLDG10085. 39 hours.

Green Building Construction Practices – BLDG10142

Explore many facets of green building in the construction industry from a contractor’s (builder’s) perspective. Gain knowledge to assist in the bid, procurement, build and close out phases of green building projects. Renewable and non-renewable energy sources, project delivery methods, Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) and various ratings systems such as LEED, Green Globes, Net Zero Energy etc. with emphasis on new construction are addressed. 42 hours.

Home Flood Risk Assessment Training – BLDG10134

Check Availability

Examine the impact of climate change, municipal engineering practices, and government land development policies on the risk of floods. Explore how the availability of flood risk insurance for homeowners has evolved. Complete a visual assessment of risks at homes built during different eras, identify opportunities to reduce risks and where to investigate further. Demonstrate the use of a nationally recognized flood risk assessment tool by completing a full flood risk assessment. 42 hours.

Introduction To Cost Estimating – BLDG10012

Check Availability

Examine the construction estimating process used in general contracting and the role of the estimator in construction management. Complete simple residential and commercial exercises to develop skills with 'Taking-Off' methods. Students should have blueprint reading skills. 39 hours.

Material Estimating and Methods – BLDG10085

Discover a proven method of cost estimating. Learn to determine material quantities and unit cost for a complete project in a commercial environment. The build-up and calculations of unit costs for materials, labour and equipment will be the fundamental focus. Prerequisite: BLDG10012. 39 hours.
