Woodworking Courses

Continuing Education offers a selection of stand-alone courses each term that do not lead to a credential.

Admission Requirements

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent (Mohawk Academic Upgrading, GED) OR 19 years of age or older.


These courses provide an introduction to the knowledge and skills required to construct cabinets and fine furniture using recognized, traditional trade practices and new technologies. You can learn to use woodworking production equipment and hand tools, and lay out, calculate, cut, machine, assemble and finish preparation of a cabinet or a piece of fine furniture.

NOTE: CSA approved safety shoes/boots and safety glasses/eyewear with side shields are mandatory for admittance in to all shops and are the responsibility of the student.

Build Your Own Raised Garden Bed - BLDG10717

Build your own raised garden bed and explore options for planting in this workshop. Materials included. You must bring CSA approved safety shoes and safety glasses and make arrangements to take your project home at the end of the session.

Guitar Building - Acoustic 1 - BLDG10120

Start to build your own acoustic guitar under the guidance of an experienced guitar maker. Jigs and specialty tools are provided. Materials extra; approximately $400 - $600. Students must have completed Woodworking Level 2 or be able to demonstrate equivalent prior woodworking experience. Project to be completed over two semesters.

Guitar Building - Electric - BLDG10128

Start to build your own T-style electric guitar under the guidance of an experienced guitar maker. Jigs and specialty tools are provided. Materials extra; approximately $300 - $600. Students must have completed Woodworking Level 2 or be able to demonstrate equivalent prior woodworking experience.

Hand Tool Techniques - BLDGTZ030

Practice various hand tool techniques with construction of a small piece of furniture. Hand cut joinery and drawer construction, hand planning, finishing, and repairs are covered. Tools supplied. Materials extra.

Woodworking for Women (Men Welcome) - BLDG10022

Produce several small woodworking projects from solid lumber in order to develop basic machine competency skills on the radial arm saw, band saw, table saw, jointer, planer, drill press and hand router. Tools supplied. Materials included. Theory and practical tests included. Equivalent to: BLDGTZ070.

Woodworking Level 1 - BLDGTZ070

Woodworking Level 2 - BLDGTZ071

Further develop cabinet making skills by producing a fine hall or sofa table from solid lumber. Project may or may not be completed within the 12 weeks. Must supply your own materials. Prerequisite: BLDGTZ070 or BLDG10022 completed within one year. Must supply your own materials.

Woodworking Level 3 - BLDGTZ073

Check Availability

Build a piece of furniture or cabinet with the guidance of a cabinet maker. Use techniques from Levels 1 and 2 to build your own custom project (size limitations). Supply own plan and materials. Prerequisite: BLDGTZ071.
